Plum: Magazine for Pregnant Women over 35

pic_462%5B1%5D.jpg Plum magazine is a new magazine for pregnant women over 35. It is published by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The name comes from plum meaning 'something especially prized'. There should be free copies in many OBGYN offices, or you can order it. The magazine describes its own contents as: "With topics ranging from birthing plans, prenatal testing, pregnancy myths, and mothering to entertaining, travel, fashion and culture, Plum gives the 35+ mom-to-be the know how and the support she needs throughout her pregnancy and beyond. She will be informed, entertained and moved as she learns about the best healthcare practices, the hottest trends, and the most poignant personal stories."

It is nice to see that the OBGYN's are recognizing and supporting women over 35 who are getting pregnant. Not that long ago, such women were referred to as "elderly primagravid" (Primagravid means pregnant. For pregnant they find some obscure word to substitute, but for the age they choose the word 'elderly' with all its connotations!) Now the description of a pregnant woman over 35 has progressed to Advanced Maternal Age. And the medical community has created a magazine to support such women. We've come a long way, baby!
