How Often Should You Have Sex When Trying to Get Pregnant?

There are lots of different answers that you may get to the question: How Often Should You Have Sex When Trying to Get Pregnant?
1) Days 10, 12, and 14 of your menstual cycle if you have a 28 day menstrual cycle. (Day 1 is the first day of your period.)
2) 3 times a week
3) Every day during your most fertile days.
4) Not every day, but every other day in order to allow time for sperm supply to increase.

Here is what that information is based on:
1) Sperm live for 2 and up to 5 days in the female reproductive tract.
2) When you ovulate, the egg is available to be fertilized for 12 and up to 24 hours. (To find out when you ovulate, click here for a calendar method and click here for the temperature method.

The biggest debate out there is the every day versus every other day debate:

There are Pros and Cons to having sex every day around ovulation:
Pros: sex every day & sperm may have more motility (because they are 'newer')
Cons: sex every day & sperm count may not be as high

For most people, the sperm count and motility will not be an issue, so every day or every other day really won't matter. (Though, some will say that more often = more likely, so every day is better.) For those with low sperm counts, recommended time to wait is 1 - 3 days before having intercourse again.
